More InformationThe USDOT has amended its drug & alcohol testing regulations to add oral fluid as an authorized testing method for the presence of prohibited drugs. The Final Rule was published in the Federal Register on 05/02/2023 – Final Rule (Effective 06/01/2023). This is a critical step in the process of making oral fluid testing an option for DOT-mandated drug and alcohol testing programs in addition to urine specimen testing.
In addition, this rule amends the FAA, FMCSA, FRA, and FTA regulations to ensure consistency within the Department of Transportation by removing or adjusting references to the word “urine” and adding oral fluid, as well as other miscellaneous technical changes or corrections. During this webinar Dr. Smith will break down all of the changes and help guide you on implementing this into your current program.
Employers cannot begin oral fluid testing until the Department of Health and Human Services has certified at least two laboratories for oral fluid testing; currently, there are no laboratories that have been certified to perform this test. So, although the Final Rule makes the necessary regulatory revisions to allow for oral fluid testing, such tests are not yet authorized.
