DOT Releases New Oral Fluid Collection Guidelines

The Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Compliance (ODAPC) has announced the release of the “DOT Oral Fluid Specimen Collection Procedures Guidelines.”

This follows the DOT’s final rule, issued on May 2, 2023, authorizing oral fluid drug testing as an alternative to urine testing.  To serve as an oral fluid collector, individuals must be familiar with the procedures outlined in the Guidelines.

For more information, refer to the original notice published by DOT that contains the DOT Oral Fluid Specimen Collection Procedures Guidelines and other resources.

The publication of the Oral Fluid Collection Guidelines brings us one step closer to implementing DOT oral fluid drug testing.

Note that NO DOT-regulated oral fluid collections can occur until the Department of Health and Human Services certifies both a primary laboratory and a split specimen laboratory.
